Buddha bathing ceremony brings peace, purity

The Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) joined a series of events to celebrate the 2025 Buddha’s Birthday and Mother’s Day, which highlighted values of compassion, peace and filial piety.

On May 3, FFCCCII vice president William Cosiaco, along with federation staff, joined the opening ceremony of the “2025 Bathing the Buddha Blessing Ritual” at Lucky Chinatown Mall.

Fo Guang Shan Mabuhay Temple Abbot Miao Jing led the public in chanting and prayer for world peace and prosperity.

Manila Vice Mayor Yul Servo Nieto and former Senator Nikki Coseteng were also present during the ceremony.

In another event on May 10, FFCCCII president Victor Lim led the federation’s delegation during the 2025 Buddha’s Birthday and Mother’s Day Opening Ceremony at Ayala Malls Cloverleaf in Quezon City.

The event marked the 4th Bathing the Buddha activity organized by the temple and its partners.

Lim noted the significance of Buddha’s Birthday, also known as the Bathing the Buddha Festival.

During the ceremony, people pour clean water over the golden statue of the young prince, before he became Sakyamuni Buddha.

The act symbolizes cleansing the dirt, worries and troubles from hearts, purifying both body and spirit. It is also a way to learn from Buddha’s compassion, wisdom and tolerance and pray that his blessings bring peace and kindness to society.

Lim also said that Mother’s Day is an important time to show gratitude to mothers and repay the love and care of parents.

Lim said that in these difficult times, both locally and globally, the Buddha Bathing and Blessing Ritual helps find peace, clear minds and bring hope and healing to the community.
