Mayor Abby to lead ‘Spread the Love, Makati’ event on Saturday

The Makati City government on Friday announced that Mayor Abigail Binay will be leading the celebration of this year’s “Spread the Love, Makati!” at the stretch of Makati Avenue in Barangay Poblacion on Saturday, June 21.

The event is Makati’s way of supporting Pride Month this June, with the city staging its own Pride March, which emphasizes its call for inclusivity and unity with the LGBTQIA+ movement.

The celebration will feature fun and exciting booths, engaging discussions on inclusive development and cultural diversity, and live performances from celebrity guests and LGBTQIA+ artists.

The Makati Avenue stretch from J.P. Rizal to Kalayaan Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic for the event. Motorists are advised to take alternative routes to reach their destinations during the event.

For vehicles heading to Ayala Avenue via the usual Makati Avenue route, the suggested detour is as follows: turn left onto Villena Street, then make a right turn onto Gen. Luna Street. Next, turn left onto Don Pedro Street, take a right turn onto Kalayaan Avenue, and finally left onto Makati Avenue to reach your destination.

Light vehicles coming from Mandaluyong City via the Makati-Mandaluyong Bridge (southbound) and heading towards the Ayala District or Central Business District, may turn right onto J.P. Rizal Avenue, then take a left onto Zobel Street.

From there, make a left onto Valdez Street, a right onto Century Drive, and either turn left onto Kalayaan Avenue or cross Kalayaan Avenue to turn left onto Neptune Street and finally right onto Makati Avenue towards destination.

Trucks and other heavy vehicles coming from the Makati-Mandaluyong Bridge should turn right onto J.P. Rizal Avenue, then take a left onto N. Garcia Street, followed by another left onto Kalayaan Avenue.

From there, make a right onto Durban Street, then a right onto Makati Avenue, crossing the Ayala Avenue/Senator Gil J. Puyat Avenue intersection towards destinations in Ayala Center.

All vehicles coming from Senator Gil J. Puyat Avenue are advised to take the one-way P. Burgos Street to reach their destinations on J.P. Rizal Avenue or the Makati-Mandaluyong Bridge.

For public utility jeeps coming from City of Manila (specifically the Guadalupe – Taft and Guadalupe Ibabaw – Delpan routes) heading to the Rockwell Area and Guadalupe District:

·         Option 1: Travel along Osmena Street in Barangay Poblacion, take a right turn onto E. Zobel Street, cross J.P. Rizal Avenue, turn left onto Valdez Street, and left onto P. Burgos Street to reach your destination.

·         Option 2: Travel along Osmena Street, turn left onto the Makati-Mandaluyong Bridge Service Road, then take a right onto Mabini Street, heading towards J.P. Rizal Avenue (Lumang Munisipyo area) to reach your destination, and

·         Option 3: Travel along Osmena Street, turn right onto the Makati-Mandaluyong Bridge Service Road, and then turn left onto J.P. Rizal Avenue to reach your destination.

The local government assures that normal traffic flow will resume at 5:01 a.m. on Sunday, June 22.
