Philippine Exporters Confederation Inc. (PhilExport) president Sergio Ortiz-Luis Jr. on Thursday urged lawmakers and stakeholders to accelerate key reforms and open more global market opportunities.
He made the remarks while addressing members during the second-quarter general membership meeting.
Ortiz-Luis noted the 19th Congress’ failure to pass key measures supporting micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). These include the Magna Carta, aimed at improving financial access, and the International Trade Maritime Act, designed to curb excessive domestic shipping charges.
Other unpassed bills are the Philippine Ports Act, which would separate the regulatory and developmental roles of the Philippine Ports Authority, and the National Quality Infrastructure Bill, intended to raise product standards.
“Meanwhile, we are hopeful that the CREATE MORE Act, which took effect last November, will translate into fresh investments and greater competitiveness for existing companies,” he said.
