EVs seen hitting 10% of 2025 PH car sales

The local automotive industry expects electrified vehicle (EV) sales to reach 10 percent of total car sales this year, reflecting growing consumer acceptance and sustained industry momentum, according to the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI).

“EV sales are getting bigger each year. We’re projecting them to reach 10 percent of total industry sales in 2025,” CAMPI president Rommel Gutierrez told reporters Thursday on the sidelines of CAMPI’s anniversary celebration.

Gutierrez said that while incentives such as exemption from number coding contribute to EV uptake, it is the advancement of electric vehicle technology that is driving market adoption.

“The market is now accepting the technology—both pure electric and hybrid electric vehicles. But hybrids still dominate, accounting for 90 percent of total electrified vehicles sold,” he said.

Infrastructure remains a big challenge, particularly the lack of widespread charging stations, which Gutierrez noted contributes to “range anxiety” among potential EV buyers. Gutierrez said the situation is improving as more charging stations are being established nationwide.
