The San Miguel Foundation (SMF) on Tuesday turned over a newly refurbished University of Perpetual Help Bilibid Extension School with upgraded facilities at Camp Sampaguita medium security compound within the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Barangay Poblacion, Muntinlupa City.
SMF chairperson Cecile Ang presided at the inauguration along with Sandiganbayan Justice Karl Miranda, Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr., and Perpetual Help officials Dr. Anthony Tamayo and Dr. Daisy M. Tamayo.
In her remarks, Ang said while SMF has long supported schools and foundations, it was only last year that they saw the opportunity to assist the BuCor particularly the Bilibid Extension School (BES). She expressed gratitude to Justice Miranda and Catapang for highlighting the urgent needs that could be addressed at the facility.
The facility tagged as San Miguel’s Better World Bilibid forged a partnership with BuCor and University of Perpetual Help.
The initiative was seen not just about renovating a learning facility, but also about believing in true restorative justice, creating an environment where hope, growth and opportunity can thrive.
“The transformation of the school is the first part of the donation of SMF including computer units and other school facilities,” Ang said.
The guests toured the newly renovated facilities, including the library, faculty room, classrooms equipped with new armchairs and smart television units. The tour covered the computer room which houses 50 brand new desktop units.
Dr. Anthony Tamayo also thanked the SMF for vigorously supporting the UPHSD Bilibid Extension School.
For his part, Catapang also hailed the project as an answered prayer for the benefit of the BuCor inmates.
