The oath-taking was led by Wang Shenhui, president of the Volunteer Fire Fighters and Fire Chiefs Association of the Philippines. He encouraged the new officers to stay committed to service and continue their efforts to protect the community.

Newly-elected president Tony Sy thanked members for their trust and said he would lead with dedication. He acknowledged the heavy responsibility but expressed confidence that teamwork among the officers would help the association continue to grow and serve better.

Guest speaker Antonio Tan, chairman of the Philippine Chinese Charitable Association (PCCAI), lauded the group for staying true to its mission and protecting the public. He emphasized the importance of volunteer fire brigades, especially in busy areas like Divisoria.

Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc. (FFCCCII) vice president William Yap Castro also spoke at the event. He remembered the 1961 fire in Divisoria that burned for three days and nights, destroying several streets of markets.

He commended the courage of volunteer firefighters and said FFCCCII would continue to support the association, calling it one of the “three treasures of the Filipino Chinese community.”

President Tony Sy, also known for his charitable work, donated P100,000 to the FFCCCII’s “Grant for Lost Filipino Chinese Students” education program.
