Japan Tobacco Inc.’s (JTI) manufacturing arm, JTI Asia Manufacturing Corp. (JTI-AMC), reaffirms its commitment to championing sustainability as it received the Lima Estate Sustainability Awards during the Lima Estate Locator Appreciation Night 2025 last March 21, 2025.

This marks the third consecutive year that the JTI-AMC factory, located within the economic zone managed by Lima Estate in Malvar, Batangas, has received the award.

The initiative, which started in 2024, significantly reduced the plant’s water waste by 40 percent.

Water consumption has been reduced by approximately 7,300 cubic meters in total since the project started operations last October 2024.

The project also successfully lowered maintenance costs and increased operational efficiencies.

Amir Vajdi, JTI-AMC president said that the award is a testament to the company’s dedication to reducing its environmental footprint.

“This sustainability award further affirms our pursuit of environmental responsibility and resource conservation. Adopting a more sustainable approach to water treatment reflects JTI’s focus on continuous improvement and our unwavering commitment to fostering a more sustainable future,” Vajdi said.

JTI-AMC has also been recognized globally during JTI’s 17th Sustainability Impact Awards.

Out of the 65 project entries from all over the world, the Batangas factory was recognized as one of the 3 winners for its Zero Waste to Landfill project.

“We are extremely proud to have received this award and be recognized as one of the best in JTI. Our project is a true testament to our commitment to a sustainable future, as we fully achieved our zero waste to landfill target—a milestone reached in just one year!” Vajdi said.

The winning project boasts of several waste management initiatives, which include the successful reuse of wood pallets, implementation of a plastic ring core recycling program, repurposing of tobacco dust, C-48 box recycling for farmer partnerships, the recovery and sale of used batteries, and a 100 percent transition of landfill waste to co-processing in a cement company.

“Overall, these efforts signify a shift towards a circular economy, minimizing waste and enhancing resource utilization while setting a new benchmark for environmental stewardship in the industry,” Vajdi said.

JTI-AMC, which started its operations in 2017, is one of JTI’s primary manufacturing hubs in Asia, employing up to 900 people and serving 23 global markets where JTI has a presence.
