Maylong Enterprises Corp., a Davao-based company, has made the first shipment of frozen durian from the Philippines to China, the company and government officials said.

The shipment, consisting of 300 boxes of frozen durian paste and 1,050 boxes of frozen durian meat, departed from the Davao International Container Terminal (DICT) on Feb. 11, 2025.

The cargo, valued at P8.2 million ($147,000), was destined for Nansha District, Guangzhou Province and was expected to arrive on Feb. 18, 2025.

The shipment marks the first time a Philippine company received approval from China’s General Administration of Customs to export frozen durian meat and paste.

“This is a significant milestone for the Philippine durian industry,” a spokesperson for the Department of Agriculture-Region XI (DA-RFO XI) said. “It opens up a large potential market for our farmers.”

The Bureau of Plant Industry-Plant Quarantine Service (BPI-PQS) Port of Davao certified the shipment under Phytosanitary Certificate Nos. W 473547 – DVO and W 473548 – DVO.

The export follows increased trade between the Philippines and China, and highlights the growing demand for durian in the Chinese market.

It also represented a new chapter in the Philippines’ durian industry, one that promises growth, opportunity, and global recognition for the country’s world-class produce.
