Airport authorities urged passengers not to bring firearms or other banned items to prevent flight delays and inconvenience this holiday season.
The Office for Transportation Security (OTS) made the appeal as the agency continued to apprehend people carrying prohibited items at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
OTS screening officers Charline Advincula and Alvin Jacob Mendoza recently caught a passenger in possession of an empty bullet at NAIA Terminal 1.
The passenger, en route to Dubai via Philippine Airlines Flight PR658, was undergoing the usual x-ray screening when the OTS agents detected a suspected prohibited item on a monitor.
OTS officers discovered an empty bullet shell, a prohibited item on a plane, which was surrendered by the passenger and handed over to the Police-Aviation Security Group for proper disposition.
The passenger was later allowed to board his flight after he surrendered the restricted item.
“We would like to remind all travelers that bringing firearms, ammunition, or any parts of these into the airport and terminal is not allowed. Let’s avoid bringing bullets because this is strictly prohibited in our airport. We kindly request your cooperation to maintain the order of our operations,” said OTS Administrator Undersecretary Crizaldo Nieves.
Authorities advised the public to ensure that firearms and bullets to be transported bear appropriate documentation from law enforcement agencies, and must be declared and comply with the proper handling requirement by the airline.
