Tamayo taps Cariño to handle Perpetual Help Altas spikers

UNIVERSITY of Perpetual Help System Dalta (UPHSD) chairman Dr./BGEN Antonio Tamayo is tapping 1st assistant coach Micheal Cariño as the successor of the late coach Sinfronio ‘Sammy’ Acaylar, who died last Thursday at the Perpetual Help Medical Center due to cardiac arrest

Carino will be the interim head coach of the five-peat seeking Perpetual Altas men’s volleyball team for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 100 campaign that will open on February 20, 2025 with a new, double, round-robin format.

According to the team owner Tamayo, there is no one else who should succeed coach Acaylar but Carino, who has been his long-time deputy since 2010.

Carino thanked the Perpetual chief executive for the announcement.

“It’s an honor to be a successor of Coach Sammy and of course, we will do our very best to continue the legacy. I will strive harder just to get our goal to become a champion,” Cariño said.

“And big thanks po, to the Tamayo family, most specially to sir Tony Tamayo, sir Anthony and sir Anton for trusting me to lead this team,” Cariño added.

The late veteran tactician, who won 14 titles for Perpetual Help, is scheduled to be given his necrological rites at the Perpetual Help chapel in Barangay Pamplona III ion Tuesday, February 4, 2025, which would have been his 66th birthday.

Interment is scheduled on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at Heaven’s Park Memorial Park in Barangay Santo Niño, Biñan City, Laguna after a Holy Mass at 11 a.m.
