ONE Fight Night 30: Kevin Belingon sees a bit of himself in Carlo Bumina-ang

Former ONE Bantamweight MMA World Champion Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon doesn’t have to look far when asked who Carlo “The Bull” Bumina-ang reminds him of as the Team Lakay rising star builds his path in the world of MMA.

The now Lions Nation MMA representative sees much of himself in “The Bull,” particularly in their approach to fights.

Belingon expects to see similar traits when Bumina-ang returns to action against Mauro Mastromarini in a bantamweight MMA bout at ONE Fight Night 30 this Saturday, April 5, at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

“Yes, of course I see some similarities. Like me, he comes in with a finisher’s mentality. He wants to come in there and finish the fight as early as possible,” he said.

“That was me in my heyday. I always come in there and try to finish the fight as fast as I can. That’s Carlo’s edge, that killer instinct and that mindset that he’s gonna finish every fight.”

That style powered Belingon’s illustrious MMA career, which peaked in 2018 when he defeated Bibiano Fernandes to win the ONE Bantamweight MMA World Title.

He sees no reason to doubt Bumina-ang’s ability to replicate the same feat and explains how “The Bull” will get there.

“Carlo will have a long career ahead of him and I’m excited to see where he’ll end up. For as long as he stays disciplined, inside and outside the training, he’ll go places,” Belingon said.

“Being disciplined and staying consistent will be the key to him maintaining those types of performances in the Circle or in the ring,” he added.

“It’s all about discipline now, just staying away from bad habits, and he’ll have a very good career ahead of him.”

And that long career continues against Mastromarini this Saturday as Belingon expects Bumina-ang to handle his Argentinian opponent convincingly.

“Based on his previous fights there’s really no reason to doubt him, especially since I see himself improving with each fight,” he said.

“I’m confident that he’ll get another win in this upcoming fight.”
