A very experienced Magda Linette ended Alex Eala’s campaign at the Nottingham Open on Tuesday (Manila time).
The world no. 31 Linette, who is from Poland, won her second encounter with Eala, 6-4, 6-2, in the round of the 32 of the WTA 250 event at the Nottingham Tennis Center.
Linette, who came back from a 0-3 deficit in the first set, was done with Eala in 69 minutes.
With her loss, Eala earned $2975, or around P168,994.82 and one point for her efforts.
Eala’s loss came a day after she reached the main draw, following her win over Romania’s Anca Todoni, 6-3, 6(4)-7, 6-3, in her final qualifying match.
Linette unleashed six aces, and scored 24 points off 34 first serves, while Eala also had 24 points off 46 first serves.
After Linette fought Eala to a 3-all deadlock, the Polish netter broke her in the seventh game, and engaged the Filipina to long exchanges in the eight game before taking a decisive 5-3 advantage.
In the second set, Linette broke Eala’s service twice to get a 5-2 edge.
The tournament serves Eala’s preparations for the Wimbledon, which is set from June 30 to July 11 in London.
Eala’s Wimbledon campaign will be her second straight Grand Slam tourney this year.
