TOP Filipina netter Alexandra Eala is still far from the tennis player that she wants to be.
“Do I feel like I am close to being a Top 10 player at this moment? I would say no,” said the 20-year-old Eala, in an interview posted on social media during her stint at the Lexus Birmingham Open in Great Britain.
“That’s not to say I don’t have the potential to be there one day, but at the moment, I still have a lot more to work on in my game,” said Eala.
“It is a little bit of everything I need to improve on. Mentally, technically. You look at a top 10 player and they have so many matches each year,” added Eala.
Eala’s campaign ended following a 5-7, 7-6, 1-6 setback to Linda Fruhvirtova of the Czech Republic in the Round of 32 at the Edgbaston Priory Club, early Wednesday morning (Manila time).
The game was done in two hours and 53 minutes, with the world no. 152-ranked Fruhvirtova advancing to the second round.
“My level is there and I show that at times, but there are certain reasons why these players are in top 10 and I’m not there yet,” said Eala.
During the game, Eala conceded 61 first-set points off her opponents’ 81 first serves. She got 48 points of 83 first serves.
Eala picked up $1,650 and one Women’s Tennis Association point for her effort.
Earlier, Eala got eased out in the women’s doubles after she and Rebeka Masarova of Switzerland fell in a 4-6, 4-6 loss to the Australian pair of Ellen Perez and Storm Hunter in the Round of 16.
She is again seeing action in grasscourt surfaces, preparing for the coming Wimbledon Championships on June 30.
