De La Salle University and New Era University secured their spots in the semifinals of Season 3 of the Pinoyliga Next Man Cup after clinching victories in their respective quarterfinal matchups last Saturday at the Enderun Colleges Gym in Taguig City.
Jacob Cortez led the way for the twice-to-beat Green Archers, putting up an all-around performance with 18 points, five rebounds, five assists, and four steals in their 86–73 triumph over St. Dominic College of Asia. Kean Badaan backed him up with a double-double of 17 points and 10 assists.
DLSU also got solid support from Ethan Alian, who chipped in 18 points. Bright Nwankwo posted a strong inside presence with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Luis Pablo contributed 15 points.
Meanwhile, New Era University pulled off a gritty 69–62 win over reigning NCAA champion Mapúa to punch its semifinal ticket. Toritsieju Adams came up big for the Hunters, delivering 18 points and 12 rebounds. James Manzano and Vincent Sablo added 11 points each to help seal the win for the twice-to-beat squad.
New Era will take on the College of St. Benilde in the semifinals. CSB automatically advanced after Enderun Colleges withdrew from the tournament due to injuries.
On the other side of the bracket, DLSU awaits the winner of the knockout clash between Emilio Aguinaldo College and Guang Ming College. Guang Ming forced a do-or-die matchup after edging EAC, 86–84.
Joshua Jamies led Guang Ming with 19 points, followed by Kurt Lactaotao with 17, while Stephen Ihebem turned in a double-double of 14 points and 10 boards.
The deciding game between EAC and Guang Ming is set for Monday, April 14, at the Enderun gym. The winner will face La Salle in the semifinals, scheduled for April 24, also under a knockout format.
