THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Wednesday assured voters in Bangued, Abra that they will still be able to cast their ballots in the May 12 midterm elections despite a fire that destroyed an elementary school eyed as a polling place.
According to Comelec chairman George Garcia, at least 70 percent of the Dangdangla Elementary School in Bangued was eaten by a blaze early Wednesday morning.
A total of 992 voters were expected to cast their votes at the school which will serve as one of the 24 polling centers in the town which has 49 clustered precincts.
“We will not be intimidated, whether this is intentional or not. They will still cast their votes in that location so that our fellow citizens can witness them voting, even as the very place where your children, grandchildren, and students learn has been turned to ashes,” Garcia said.
