The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Wednesday evening said that its chief, Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., engaged with foreign military leaders during the recently concluded Shangri-La Dialogue held in Singapore from May 30 to June 1.
“Leading the AFP delegation, Gen. Brawner participated in high-level discussions focused on strengthening regional security cooperation, advancing joint defense capabilities, and promoting peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific Region,” the AFP said in a statement.
“Throughout the dialogue, Gen. Brawner met with counterparts from allied and partner nations to explore opportunities for joint training, capability-building, and information-sharing initiatives. These engagements reaffirmed the AFP’s commitment to fostering strong international defense relations,” it added.
Specifically, Brawner met with the likes of Japan’s General Yoshida Yoshihide, Canada’s General Jennie Carignan, South Korea’s LtGen Jeong Jin-Pal, Singapore’s Vice Admiral Aaron Beng, and India’s General Anil Chauhan.
The military, however, did not disclose any details of the collaborations and security ties.
At the same dialogue, Brawner, together with Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro, denounced a malicious and misleading report from “Chinese intelligence agents posing as journalists” during a defense conference in Singapore.
“They released an article on WeChat, saying that the Philippines is avoiding answering questions about the West Philippine Sea and accused us of infiltrating, encroaching, and entering their territory,” Brawner said.
