CEBU CITY—Cebu governor-elect Pam Baricuatro said Thursday she is leaving up the electoral protest of outgoing Governor Gwendolyn Garcia for her legal team to address, considering the more important governance tasks ahead.
“I will not allow myself to be distracted from the more important task of governance, as my team and I prepare to take over the reins of the Provincial Capitol,” Baricuatro said in her latest Facebook post.
Garcia recently filed an electoral protest, challenging Baricuatro’s victory in the 2025 midterm elections, claiming that some of the votes intended for her were credited to her opponent.
Baricuatro, however, said it would be better if Garcia would just “savor the last days of her administration” and accept the will of the Cebuanos, who elected the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP) bet as their new governor.
“I have a team of lawyers and election experts already handling the matter. In due time, my legal counsel will address the case,” Baricuatro said, referring to Garcia’s electoral protest.
