Guevarra returns to private life as Berberabe takes over OSG

President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. has accepted the resignation of Solicitor General Menardo Guevarra and named former Home Development Mutual Fund (Pag-IBIG) Chief Executive Officer Darlene Marie Berberabe as the next head of the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG).

Berberabe is a seasoned lawyer, management consultant, and academic. She is currently the dean of the University of the Philippines (UP) College of Law and was elected as independent director of the SM Prime Board of Directors in April 2021.

Guevarra was among the government officials who tendered courtesy resignation after President Marcos initiated a widespread overhaul of his Cabinet to realign priorities following the results of the 2025 midterm elections.

According to a report by GMA News, Guevarra said he respects this decision of the President and is happy with Berberabe’s appointment, describing her as a top-caliber lawyer.

“As for me, maybe it’s time to go back to a quiet and peaceful private life,” Guevarra was quoted in the report.

Berberabe is the widow of the late professional basketball player Samboy Lim. She has taken her oath of office before President Marcos on Thursday with recently appointed Housing Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling.
