Malacañang on Friday brushed off speculation over President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s health, calling the rumors baseless and politically motivated.
Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro assured the public that the President remains in good condition and continues to perform his duties actively.
“You will notice, almost every day you see the President in his activities… From his public engagements to meetings with officials, the President is very much present and involved,” Castro said during a media briefing.
The remarks come amid recent speculation about Mr. Marcos’ physical well-being after a photo showing the president with bleeding gums went viral.
The PCO Undersecretary has since said the rumors of the President’s health were being spread by “fake news peddlers” aiming to sow doubt about his capability to lead.
“If the President’s health is not good, it’s likely he wouldn’t be able to perform his duties on a daily basis… Our President’s health is good,” Castro said.
“Please do not make up stories about the President’s health. That is not good for our country,” she added, urging the public to be wary of misinformation and calling on critics to avoid spreading unfounded health rumors.
