Former PCSO Board Member Sandra Cam dies at 64

Former board member of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) Sandra Cam has passed away, her family confirmed on Friday.

Her son, Marco, shared the news of his 64-year-old mother’s death through a statement on his Facebook page. He revealed she died on Thursday, April 10. No further details were provided regarding the cause of her death.

“Mama Ningning is a resilient single mother who raised three sons into strong, capable men—each one carrying forward her legacy of serving the Filipino people with courage and compassion,” said Marco.

“Her deep value for education likewise earned her recognition as an Outstanding Asian Public Servant and Educator in the Philippines,” he added, noting that her final years in public service were spent with the PCSO.

Cam was a self-confessed “jueteng” bagwoman before turning into a “whistleblower” for the government in 2005, exposing corruption involving lotteries and politicians in the country.

In 2019, Cam, who was serving as a board member of the PCSO at the time, requested then-President Rodrigo Duterte to relieve her of her duties, citing corruption concerns within the agency.

She claimed the agency had suffered significant financial losses, including around P10 billion that went missing due to the Peryahan ng Bayan project.

An ardent supporter of Duterte, Cam had been appointed to the PCSO board in 2017.

In 2023, she apologized to staunch Duterte critic Leila de Lima, saying that she was “used as a tool” for the imprisonment of the former senator and justice secretary.
