42 illegal aliens rounded up in Quezon province

Government agents have arrested 42 foreign nationals in a beach resort in Quezon province pursuant to the government’s relentless campaign against illegal aliens in the country.

Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said most of the apprehended foreigners were linked to Philippine Overseas Gaming Operations (POGOs) and were staying at a beach resort in Barangay Villa Norte, Alabat, Quezon.

Joint operatives of the Bureau of Immigration (BI), the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission, and the Calabarzon police conducted the raid on the strength of Executive Order 287, also called Mission Orders for Verification and Investigation of Suspected Illegal Aliens.

The crackdown targeted aliens involved in POGOs which were linked to human trafficking, cyber fraud, and other criminal activities, Viado said.

BI Intelligence chief Fortunato Manahan Jr., said the arrest was made following the bureau’s surveillance of illegal aliens’ activities in the country.

“Their operations were found to be in violation of Immigration laws and posed significant risks to the public,” Manahan said.
