CAAP holds air transport facilitation meeting

In collaboration with key government agencies, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) convened the first meeting of the National Air Transport Facilitation Committee on Tuesday, marking a significant step towards ensuring the expeditious and efficient handling of clearances of international flights in the Philippines.

A major focus of the discussion was the National Air Transport Facilitation Programme (NATFP), developed by CAAP alongside law enforcement agencies and other relevant authorities.

CAAP information officer Eric Apolonio explained the NATFP aims to streamline procedures at all airports and prevent unnecessary delays for aircraft, crews, passengers, and cargo, particularly concerning the administration of laws related to immigration, quarantine, and customs clearance.

He further noted that the NATFP serves as the official facilitation framework for all international airports in the Philippines.

“It promotes enhanced inter-agency coordination and more efficient clearance processes while balancing the interests of public authorities, airline operators, airport management, and passengers,” Apolonio said.

Through the NATFP, the Philippines reaffirms its commitment to implementing the Standards and Recommended Practices set forth by the International Civil Aviation Organization, particularly those outlined in Annex 9 – Facilitation.

The inaugural committee meeting laid the foundation for ongoing collaboration among NATFP members to adapt to the evolving needs of the aviation industry and meet global standards.
