Marcos declares April 1 as holiday for Eid’l Fitr

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared Tuesday, April 1, 2025, a regular holiday across the country in observance of Eid’l Fitr, the feast marking the end of Ramadan.

The proclamation, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on March 20, was made under Republic Act No. 9177, which designates Eid’l Fitr as a national holiday.

“In order to bring the religious and cultural significance of the Eid’l Fitr to the fore of national consciousness, and to allow the entire Filipino nation to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in peace and harmony, it is necessary to declare April 1, 2025, as a regular holiday,” the proclamation stated.

The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) recommended the date based on the expected sighting of the crescent moon.

The holiday aims to highlight the religious and cultural significance of Eid’l Fitr and promote unity by allowing Filipinos of all backgrounds to join in the celebration, according to the proclamation.

Eid’l Fitr is one of the most important holidays in Islam, celebrated with prayers, feasts, and acts of charity.
