The Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to provide legal assistance and welfare and psychosocial support to indigent Filipinos.
The agreement will establish a “Client Referral and Psychosocial Intervention Program” to benefit “individuals in crisis situations.”
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla and Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalian inked the MOU for the two agencies.
“Justice does not end in the courtroom but continues in the lives of the people we continue to uplift and the dignity we restore,” Remulla said.
The program aims to capacitate indigent complainants, litigants, victims of crime, to file or pursue their case.
Assistance provided to individuals will include financial, medical, psychological, transportation, and funeral, among others.
Upon interview and referral by the DOJ Action Center, the DSWD will tag these clients under a “priority program,” subject to the evaluation and assessment of a qualified social worker.
