In light of the projected ‘danger’ level heat index that will affect cities in Metro Manila on Monday, the Malabon City government through Mayor Jeannie Sandoval issued class suspensions for all levels in both public and private schools.
Nearby Caloocan City, meanwhile, announced its public schools will observe asynchronous classes for students in kindergarten up to senior high school levels.
Valenzuela City also warned of the risks attached to 46 degrees Celsius of forecast heat, but did not issue a city-wide class suspension. Valenzuela City Technological College, however, announced its own class suspension.
The announcements stem from the two-day computed highest heat index forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), which noted at least three locations nationwide are expected to sizzle at 45 to 46 degrees Celsius on Monday.
- Science Garden, Quezon City (Metro Manila) – 46C
- Clark Airport, Pampanga (Central Luzon) – 46C
- CLSU Muñoz, Nueva Ecija – 45C
PAGASA says temperatures ranging from 42C to 51C are considered ‘danger’ levels. Individuals may suffer heat cramps and heat exhaustion. Heat stroke is also probable with continued exposure.
