Avoid banned items during air trips—OTS

THE Office for Transportation Security (OTS) has urged air travelers to regularly check the agency’s website or social media pages to stay informed about items that are prohibited on airplanes and at airports.

This as airport security personnel continue to apprehend individuals found in possession of banned items, including firearms, gun replicas, ammunition, and amulets.

The most recent incident occurred at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2, where a passenger bound for Iloilo was caught with an amulet. The prohibited item was turned over to the Philippine National Police – Aviation Security Group for proper handling, and the passenger was allowed to board after surrendering the banned item.

OTS Undersecretary Crizaldo Nieves emphasized the importance of checking the OTS website and Facebook page for travel information, including the list of prohibited items.

"Many passengers are still bringing bullets, claiming to use them as amulets, to our airports. We remind passengers not to bring these items to avoid any inconvenience during their travels," he said.

For passengers wishing to being along firearms and ammunition while traveling, the Firearms and Explosives Office (FEO) of the Philippine National Police issues the necessary clearances.

The FEO issues Permit to Transport, which is the primary requirement for a passenger to be allowed to bring a gun on a flight, along with any other required documents.
