The suspected mastermind of the abduction of a 14-year student in Taguig earlier this week is also believed to have masterminded the kidnappings of other foreign nationals, the Presidential Anti Organized Crime Commission said.
On Friday, PAOCC Spokesperson Winston Casio said the commission has been coordinating with several embassies over abductions led by a certain Wang Dan Yu, also known as Bao Long, who leads a kidnap ring targeting Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).
“So we will be providing all the information necessary to counterparts in the Philippine National Police and Department of the Interior and Local Government,” he told reporters in a mixture of Filipino and English.
The DILG earlier tagged Wang Dan Yu as the prime suspect in the fatal shooting of another Chinese national in a hotpot restaurant in Makati City in October 2024.
His name resurfaced after the 14-year-old student wet missing since February 20 but was found on a roadside in Parañaque City on Tuesday evening.
It was revealed that the victim’s parents and the kidnappers were conversing on WeChat, a popular messaging app in mainland China.
The latter demanded a ransom of $20 million, but police said the family coordinated with the PNP hence no ransom was paid.
Police said the kidnappers had released the teen victim because of pressure that authorities were closing in on them.
