DENR leads initiative to protect coastline

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has partnered with other government agencies and the private sector to launch the National Blue Carbon Action, which aims to promote coherent measures for a sustainable coastline ecosystem.

On Wednesday, Undersecretary for Policy, Planning and International Affairs Jonas Leones said the Blue Carbon Action Partnership is aligned with the National Program for a Sustainable Blue Carbon Network for a sustainable future for the next generations.

“Today is an opportunity to study what we have achieved,” he told participants from the policy governance, social science and communications sectors during the effort’s launch at the Novotel Hotel in Quezon City.

It was explained that the DENR has tied up with the Philippine Space Agency to develop a geospace database for mangroves.

Meanwhile, the Department of Interior and Local Government issued Order No. 2025-98 to establish the Ocean initiative with the creation of eight new marine scientific observatories across the country.
