The delay of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) parliamentary elections to Oct. 13, allows the regional government to resolve legal issues from the Supreme Court’s ruling excluding Sulu, Presidential Peace Adviser Carlito Galvez Jr. said Saturday.
In a statement, Galvez welcomed the passage of Republic Act No. 12123, which resets the elections and allows BARMM leaders to resolve governance and administrative concerns tied to the high court’s decision.
The new law ensures that the province will continue receiving its share of the region’s Block Grant in 2025, allowing local leaders to implement programs under national budgetary guidelines.
Galvez thanked President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for signing the law, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to fulfilling peace agreements and ensuring lasting development in the Bangsamoro region.
He also commended lawmakers in both houses of Congress for acting swiftly to address the concerns of stakeholders in the region.
Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian on Saturday lauded the BARMM for the ceremonial launch of the Bangsamoro Social Protection Plan (BSPP) 2024-2028, a significant milestone for the region’s ongoing pursuit of inclusive and equitable development.
