Fallen PNP official Pergentino Malabed returns home

The casket containing the body of Philippine National Police (PNP) Supply Management Division Chief Col. Pergentino Malabed Jr., the lone Filipino casualty from the 2025 Washington D.C. midair collision, arrived in Manila Friday morning.

PNP Public Information Office chief Colonel Randulf Tuaño said the remains of Malabed landed at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) around 7:40 a.m. Foyer honors were rendered upon his arrival before he was transported to the PNP headquarters in Camp Crame for a funeral.

Malabed’s widow, Rio Alanis, posted a status update on Facebook confirming this report.

“We’re finally home, lab. At ito na rin ang reyalidad ko. Parang sasabog ang dibdib ko (And this is my reality, too. I feel like my chest is going to burst,)” she wrote at 5:12 a.m., grieving the loss of her husband.

Earlier, Mrs. Malabed notified everyone who wants to pay their respects for the fallen policeman of his wake details, including necrological services hosted at the PNP grounds.

She has been keeping his memory alive through photos and videos shared on social media.

PNP Chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil also honored his late logistics chief, who dedicated much of his professional life in public service.

“His untimely passing is a great loss to the PNP, but his legacy of professionalism and commitment will always be remembered,” Marbil said.

The PNP said Malabed will receive posthumous honors such as the Medalya ng Katapatan sa Paglilingkod (PNP Distinguished Service Medal) and the Medalya ng Katangi-tanging Gawa (PNP Outstanding Achievement Medal).
