The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has seized more than nine kilograms of methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly known as shabu, with an estimated street value of P63 million, and arrested a female foreign national at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
The anti-drug operation, conducted in collaboration with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, also resulted in the arrested of the woman from from Zambia, who arrived on board a Southern Africa plane at the NAIA Terminal 3.
The BOC and the anti-narcotics operative discovered 9,276 grams of shabu concealed in the luggage of the unnamed suspect.
The passenger and the seized contraband were turned over to PDEA for further investigation and filing of appropriate criminal charges.
“We are ramping up efforts to prevent the smuggling of dangerous substances that endanger our communities,” the BOC said in a statement.
BOC district collector Yasmin Mapa reaffirmed the BOC-NAIA’s mission to combat drug trafficking, emphasizing the continued strengthening of intelligence-gathering and enforcement capabilities to ensure the swift interception of illegal contraband.
