The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) reported that seven flights were canceled and two were diverted to Mactan from December 9 to 10 due to the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon.
According to the CAAP Operations Center Division, the canceled flights included Cebu Pacific (CEB) services from Iloilo to and from Manila and Dumaguete, as well as from Iloilo to Singapore.
Additionally, CEB’s sister airline, CebGo, suspended its flight from Iloilo to Manila, while Philippine Airlines (PAL) canceled its flight from Manila to Puerto Princesa.
CEB also diverted flights from Manila and Bicol to Iloilo.
“The CAAP is continuously monitoring the airports affected by the volcanic eruption to ensure the safety of flights and passengers. Travelers are advised to rebook their flights,” it stated.
On Monday, the agency issued a Notice to Airmen (Notam) for flights near Kanlaon Volcano, with vertical limits extending from the surface up to 22,000 feet.
This latest Notam is effective from December 9 at 6:32 p.m. until December 10 at 4:25 p.m.
Flight operators are advised to avoid flying near the volcano due to potential hazards associated with sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions and precursory magmatic activity.
