A military reservist organization on Saturday announced its goal to recruit 1 million personnel into the country’s reserve force within the next three years.
The Association of Reservists and Reservists Administrators of the Philippines Incorporated shared its goal at an Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)-organized national convention for reservists.
Thousands of reservists nationwide joined the said convention, conducted to engage stakeholders as well as update them on reserve force developments.
The Philippines currently has around 1.6 million reservists. The figure includes over 100,000 ready reserve personnel alongside retired and standby reserve units.
“We want to fight for and promote reservists in the Philippines, grow the ranks,” reservist Lt. Col. and 1-PACMAN party-list Rep. Michael “Mikee” Romero said in a mix of English and Filipino.
“And I’m also calling on all able and patriotic and nationalistic Filipinos to heed the call to be reservists to help defend the country and to help out during calamities,” he added.
