Phivolcs logs 10-hour volcanic tremor on Taal

Taal Volcano in Batangas had a seismic activity that lasted for 10 hours and 30 minutes on Saturday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported Sunday.

Phivolcs director Dr. Teresito Bacolcol, however, assured the public that the volcano remains calm at present. “For the past 24 hours, there was no recorded volcanic earthquake at Taal Volcano, and that Alert Level 1 remains,” he told Super Radyo DZBB.

Bacolcol, however, warned of possible phreatic or phreatomagmatic eruptions.

Taal Volcano emitted 1,256 tons of sulfur dioxide flux on Saturday. An upwelling of hot volcanic fluids in the main crater lake was also observed. It also generated a moderate 900-meter-tall plume drifting southwest and west-southwest.
