Over 12,000 Thrilled by Villar City GP

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Philippine Cup Rd. 2 a record-breaking success

The second of three race weekends for the 2025 TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Philippine Cup (TGR Philippine Cup) turned out to be more than just a racing spectacle as the premier one-make race series in the country drew over 12,000 attendees to Villar City from May 23 to 25, offering a dynamic showcase of circuit races, driving exhibitions, and top shelf entertainment. Racers across four classes—Novice, Sporting, Super Sporting, and Legacy—battled it out in three circuit races on the 2.4km street circuit, which featured 14 turns, including two hairpins and six chicanes, providing thrilling and unpredictable action for spectators.

The event also saw the debut of the Tamaraw Racing Concept, a modified Tamaraw Dropside, showcased in a Drag Race Exhibition, indicating very exciting times ahead for the brand’s Motorsports program in the country.

One of the most dramatic moments of the weekend though was when TMP President Masando Hashimoto, racing for the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Philippines Novice Team, overshot his Vios race car during Race 5 which led him to slamming onto the barriers. He was able to promptly evacuate the vehicle without injuries, attributing his safety to the Vios’ robust design. “My car flipped upside down after slamming onto the concrete barriers, instantly wrecking a lot of my car’s external components, yet the cabin remained intact and completely clear, allowing me to escape without even a scratch,” President Hashimoto shared, emphasizing Toyota’s commitment to vehicle safety, which extends to its road cars built for utmost security and even equipped with Toyota Safety Sense and other protective features in addition.

Beyond the on-track action, attendees were treated to free musical performances by OPM rock icons Rico Blanco and Parokya ni Edgar on May 24, and Ely Buendia and Bamboo on May 25. The event also featured the Toyota Drive Fest, offering test drives, vehicle displays of GR and GR-S, Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV), Tamaraw, and Lexus F SPORT lineups, along with event-exclusive promos. Toyota’s pre-owned vehicle program, T-SURE, also showcased certified used cars for those considering secondhand purchasing.

Fans can anticipate a down-to-the-wire season-ender as Race Weekend 3 of the 2025 TGR Philippine Cup makes its way back to the Clark International Speedway this August.
