Dragon dance in Chinatown

Ongpin Street in Binondo, Manila turns festive on the eve of Chinese New Year with the traditional dragon and lion dance performances. Chinatown is busy on January 28, 2025 as the Filipino-Chinese community prepares to celebrate the Lunar New Year.

2025 is marked as the Year of the Wood Snake. In Chinese culture, snakes symbolize duality. According to the Economic Times, Wood Snake “is believed to possess qualities of charm, intelligence, and creativity, while sometimes being secretive or ruthless.”
