FFCAAI’s annual singles’ mixer sparks new connections

The Federation of Filipino Chinese Alumni Associations Inc. (FFCAAI) youth committee organized its annual singles’ mixer, themed “緣 (yuán) A Singles’ Affair,” on Feb. 22, 2025 at the St. Jude Catholic School Audio Visual Room.

The event aimed to foster unity and build connections among young Filipino- Chinese alumni from the 27 member alumni associations of local Filipino- Chinese schools.

The character yuan, meaning “fate” or “destiny,” refers to the Chinese phrase “meeting each other is fate,” a Buddhist concept that suggests every person you meet is no accident.

The singles’ mixer has been a flagship project of FFCAAI since its inception, aiming to help young single alumni make new friends, build connections, and possibly find a life partner.

In his opening speech, FFCAAI president Golden David welcomed the attendees, noting that most were alumni from respected Filipino Chinese schools.

He emphasized how these alumni, through their strong and responsible associations, make the event feel like one big family.

“The social mixer you are attending today is a tradition and a mainstay in our organization’s calendar of activities since its inception more than ten years ago.” he said.

“It has been the flagship event of the youth committee, with the goal of allowing young Filipino Chinese individuals to make new friends, establish fruitful connections, and maybe even find a potential partner to journey with in this life we call ‘life,’” David said.

More than 100 single alumni from various Filipino Chinese alumni associations attended the event.

The program included ice breaker games, socializing, small group discussions, speed dating and other fun activities that helped everyone connect.

Carl Dy gave a seminar on passive income, while Dr. Ricky Mercado and Dr. Michael Tan led talks on succession planning for family businesses which was organized by Ateneo de Manila University’s Family Business Center.

The event also featured a food bazaar with alumni-owned food businesses from St. Jude Catholic School, where registrants received food vouchers to sample the offerings while networking.

The singles’ mixer was overseen by youth committee president Thompson Laohianty and led by project heads youth committee secretary Chloe Ginelle Yap and youth committee vice president Andrew Tan Cua.

Youth committee auditor Hannah Janelle Sy served as the master of ceremonies, while  Jamielaine Kareena Tan handled logistical coordination.

Youth committee vice president Angelo Tan Buella, member Jan Jeffrey Ang and volunteers from Socials Connect managed registration and the program.

Youth committee advisor Dr. Michael Chua Tan was the overall project advisor, with additional guidance from the FFCAAI director.

FFCAAI vice presidents Charles Kohchet Chua, Vhivian Wong Chan and other representatives also attended to support the event.

The FFCAAI youth committee continues to organize meaningful events for the Filipino-Chinese community, strengthening alumni connections.
