Tokyo’s transparent public toilets

The land of all things quirky is at it again, this time installing public toilets with see-through walls. Yes, see-through, as in you can see the inside from outside.

Designed by Shigeru Ban Architects, the transparent restrooms are installed at Yoyogi Fukamichi Mini Park and Haru-no-Ogawa Community Park, both in Shibuya.

But if doing your “business” in a see-through public restroom is too risqué for your taste, don’t worry because the walls turn opaque once a user enters and locks the door.

This new and unusual attraction aims to ease common worries of people using public toilets: cleanliness and whether there’s anyone inside.
