BI agents nab Pakistani illegally staying in PH

PAGADIAN CITY—The Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested a Pakistani national for illegally staying in the Philippines, following intelligence reports about his unauthorized presence in Barangay Tiguma, Pagadian City.

Sajjad Khan, 31, was apprehended on June 16 through a mission order from Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado. The BI said Khan had been banned from reentering the Philippines since 2016.

Khan later admitted to entering the country illegally by boat—a method often referred to as the “backdoor.” He was found to have violated Section 37(a)(1) of the Philippine Immigration Act for illegal entry and being undocumented.

The suspect was initially detained at the Zamboanga del Sur Police Provincial Office before being transferred to the Bureau of Immigration Warden Facility at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City the next day.

The arrest was carried out in coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the 53rd Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army. Legal proceedings against Khan are ongoing.
