AC Mobility and BYD Cars Philippines officially launched the all-new BYD Sealion 5 DM-i at the Alabang Town Center last June 20. Designed to be an ideal entry point into electrified mobility, it combines hybrid efficiency – thanks to its advanced DM-i technology – with a smart, tech-forward cabin.
BYD’s Super DM-i technology is an electric-first powertrain that combines electrified propulsion with a high-efficiency generator. For the Sealion 5, the system delivers a combined output of 197 PS and 300 Nm of torque, enabling acceleration from 0–100 km/h in 8.3 seconds. It boasts a total driving range EXCEEDING 1,000 km, mitigating common range anxiety concerns. The integrated 12.96 kWh Blade Battery provides up to 71 km of pure electric driving range, based on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) standard, supporting daily commutes on electric power alone.
Bob Palanca, Managing Director of BYD Cars Philippines, highlighted the vehicle’s value proposition. “The BYD Sealion 5 DM-i delivers exceptional value—combining advanced technology, everyday functionality, and a size advantage that’s perfect for first-time buyers,” Palanca stated. He added that the model aims to be a “gateway to BYD and ACMobility’s vision of a greener Philippines.”
Recent efficiency tests supervised by the Automobile Association Philippines demonstrated the Sealion 5’s capabilities. Driven by circuit racing legends George and Louis Ramirez, the vehicle completed a 1,409.7 km Luzon Loop on a single full charge and fuel tank, achieving an efficiency rating of 25.273 km/liter.
The Sealion 5 DM-i supports 3.3 kW AC charging, allowing its battery to fully charge from 15% in approximately 4.5 hours. It also features Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, enabling it to power external devices.
Inside, the cabin features premium materials, a 10.1-inch rotating touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and various downloadable applications. Safety features include cruise control, a rear camera with radar sensors, Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control, and six airbags.
The BYD Sealion 5 DM-i is available starting at P1,248,000, with an introductory cash price of P1,198,000, along with a low down payment option of P88,000. Customers can choose from four refined exterior finishes: Arctic White, Harbour Grey, Cosmos Black, and Deep Sea Blue, each paired with a luxurious beige and brown two-tone interior. BYD also boasts savings not just on fuel consumption but on maintenance as well, requiring only one Preventive Maintenance Service per year. Warranty coverage includes 8 years or 160,000 kilometers for the Blade Battery.
