The Philippine Navy on Friday assured its readiness to assist authorities in finding the 34 missing “sabungeros” allegedly buried in Taal Lake in Batangas.
“The Philippine Navy is always ready for any opportunity to help other agencies of the government to improve the situation of our countrymen,” Philippine Navy spokesperson Capt. John Percie Alcos said.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) earlier said it planned to coordinate with the naval unit of the military and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) for the proposed search and retrieval of the victims using its technical divers.
Meanwhile, the Navy spokesperson said they have yet to receive any formal coordination from the DOJ regarding the matter.
“Most likely, once we receive notice or a request from other government agencies in this particular case, we will refer this to the Naval Special Operations Command because our technical divers are there,” Alcos said.
