‘Auring’ weakens into a remnant low—PAGASA

After developing into tropical depression ‘Auring’ late Thursday evening, weather forecasters confirmed early Friday the storm has weakened and went back to low pressure area (LPA) category near Batanes.

Based on its 5:00 am advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA is now outside of the Philippine area of responsibility.

“Due to the frictional effects associated with the landfall over Taiwan, AURING weakened into a Low Pressure Area at 2:00 AM today,” PAGASA said in its latest weather bulletin.

It was moving away and was last monitored based on available data at approximately 580 kilometers north northwest of Itbayat, Batanes.

As of this posting, PAGASA attributed the possible inclement weather still being experienced over Batanes and Babuyan Islands to the southwest monsoon or ‘habagat.’

No tropical cyclone wind signal has been raised but sailors were advised to still not venture out into the sea amid adverse weather conditions.

“The remnant low will likely move generally northward or northeastward and will merge to the frontal system,” PAGASA said.
