Top seed Alex Eala grabbed her winning chances in the second set, as she reached the quarterfinals Ilkley WTA 125 in Great Britain.
The 20-year old Eala found herself in the round of eight after she came away with 6-1, 6-2 beating of Switzerland’s Valentina Ryser on Thursday evening.
The world no. 77 Eala had 25 points off 38 first serves.
An unforced error from Ryser allowed Eala to break serve and take a 3-2 lead in the second set.
The Filipina seized the opportunity, stepping up her offensive play to break for a 3-2 lead.
Eala continued to dictate the pace from the baseline, pushing the lead to 4-2 with a series of deep, penetrating groundstrokes.
From there, Eala took control of the game from the baseline, and went ahead, 4-2, following a a series of exchanges, and deep groundstrokes.
Eala was done with Ryser in 68 minutes.
Canadian Rebecca Marino, ranked no. 108 in the world, will be Eala’s next foes.
Marino reached the round of eight off her 2-6, 6-3 win over British bet Emily Appleby.
