Made It In China highlights Filipino success stories

As 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and China, the Philippine Embassy in Beijing, in cooperation with the Philippine Consulates General in Chongqing, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Macau, Shanghai and Xiamen, has curated a special publication, Made It In China, to commemorate the milestone.

The embassy announced that it would officially launch on June 11 a book compiling its online series called the #MadeItInChina.

It features inspiring stories of Filipinos who have built successful lives and careers in China, across diverse fields such as medicine, education, arts, service industries and entertainment.

According to Philippine Ambassador to China Jaime FlorCruz, the series is part of the activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of formal diplomatic relations between the Philippines and China.

Flor Cruz said that since the 1990s, many Filipino professionals in China have helped train hotel staff and other workers. A Filipino couple even started the first international school in Xiamen. These people have been part of the strong exchanges between the people of Manila and Beijing for many years.

He said these individuals are living proof that China can be a land of opportunity for Filipinos.

“They show that China is a place where Filipinos can find their chosen careers, thrive, and succeed. As they succeed, they also contribute to their respective fields and communities. And, while doing so, they build connections of friendship and mutual understanding between our two peoples,” he said.

Included in the series are the inspiring journeys of artist Jensen Moreno, preschool teacher Elivira Maglalang, businesswoman Marilou Mandigma Yang, marine biologist Dr. Karen Tagulao, artist Jose Noel Antivola, musician Moises Sumile Jr., news anchor Melissa Gecolea, educator Arnel Genzola, hotel executive Rodrigo Camposagrado, pediatrician Dr. Lorela Cortez-Dy, scientist Kahlil Fredrick Ermac Cui, nurse Leizyl Alves, engineering director Neil Jayno, school founders Roman and Mildred Go, radio-TV anchor Mia Villanueva, economist Kevin Chua, technology educator John Dominic Dalida, family doctor Dr. Christopher Hemady and Oishi chairman Carlos Chan.

Their stories serve as enduring testaments to the strength of the Filipino spirit and the continuing friendship between the Philippines and China.
