The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration on Friday announced that a low pressure area (LPA) it is monitoring inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has a “medium” chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.
According to PAGASA’s 4 p.m. cyclone formation outlook on June 6, the LPA was last located about 340 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes.
Its trough is expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Quezon, Bicol, and parts of the Visayas and Mindanao, which may result in flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon is affecting the country’s western section and may bring similar conditions to Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, and SOCCSKSARGEN.
PAGASA advised the public and local authorities to continue monitoring its updates as the weather system evolves.
