NAPOLCOM backs Torre’s 8-hour work shift rule for police officers

National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) Vice Chairperson and Commissioner Rafael Calinisan supported the implementation of the eight-hour work shift for police officers, as announced by Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III.

Calinisan said he is happy with this initiative to ensure and sustain optimal performance of our men and women in uniform during their work hours. He said NAPOLCOM is working with the PNP to prepare a draft resolution to enforce this policy.

Torre’s directive promotes a healthy work-life balance among police officers, a position that Calinisan agrees with, acknowledging that cops also need sufficient time to rest their mind and body so they can function properly.

“This also aims to give police officers time to their families as police officers are overworked in their services,” Calinisan said.

Torre previously stated that his goal is to prevent policemen dozing off out of exhaustion during work hours. He also said that working more than 40 hours per week is against the Labor Code even as some police officers render at least 72 hours per week.
