Comelec asks Teodoros to explain vote-buying allegation

The Commission on Elections has asked Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro and his wife, 1st District Rep. Maan Teodoro, to respond to allegations of vote buying.

In a Show Cause Order dated May 5, 2025, the Comelec’s Committee on Kontra Bigay cited complaints involving the reported distribution of cash or claim stubs worth P2,000 to residents in several barangays from April 28 to May 1.

The order noted that based on the complaints, the payouts were distributed to attendees who were urged to vote for the Teodoro couple.
In a joint statement, the Teodoro couple said the allegations were untrue and politically motivated.

“There is absolutely no truth to the allegation of vote-buying. The case filed against us is clearly politically motivated,” they said.

Rep. Teodoro said the complainant was a known supporter of their opponents.
“The motive is clear—it was a desperate move to discredit us,” she said.
The poll body warned that the allegations, if proven true, could constitute violations of Section 261 of the Omnibus Election Code.
