President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered free rides on major urban rail lines from April 30 to May 3 as part of the government’s Labor Day celebration.
In a video announcement, Mr. Marcos said the initiative is a gesture of appreciation for the country’s workers and their contributions to the economy and society.
“I have directed that rides on MRT-3, LRT-1, and LRT-2 be made free as part of our Labor Day celebration,” the president said.
“This is a small way of honoring the sacrifices and contributions of our workers—not only to our economy but to our society as a whole,” he added.
The free rides will be available to all commuters during the four-day period.
Labor Day is celebrated annually on May 1 in the Philippines to recognize the rights and achievements of Filipino workers.
