The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has placed Buluan, Maguindanao del Sur under its control following the ambush of a local candidate in the run-up to the 2025 national and local Elections. Buluan is the second area in the country to be placed under Comelec control ahead of the May polls.
Comelec chairman George Garcia said the move was part of the poll body’s commitment to ensuring a safe and orderly electoral process in the country.
Earlier this month, the Comelec also took control of Datu Odin Sinsuat town in Maguindanao del Norte as part of its proactive measures to maintain peace and security in the region ahead of the elections.
“Therefore, the guidelines we established when we placed Datu Odin Sinsuat under Comelec control will be implemented in the same manner as Comelec’s policies in Buluan,” Garcia said.
