The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine Air Force (PAF) paid solemn tribute to fallen FA-50 fighter pilots, Major Jude Salang-Oy and First Lieutenant April John Dadulla, through military honors on Saturday.
The remains of the two pilots were brought to Villamor Air Base in Pasay City, where a ceremony was held to honor their courage and sacrifice.
Leading the tribute were Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr., Special Assistant to the President Antonio Lagdameo Jr., AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr., and PAF commanding general Lieutenant General Arthur Cordura.
The remains of the two pilots were received by their families and loved ones.
The airmen died when their FA-50 jet crashed during a tactical night operation supporting ground troops in the mountains. Initially reported missing, the jet was located the following day, and rescuers recovered the pilots’ bodies from Mount Kalatungan in Bukidnon.

In honor of their bravery and selfless service, both officers were posthumously awarded the Distinguished Aviation Cross, the highest recognition for valor and exceptional contributions to military aviation.
“Their heroism in the face of danger reflects the very best of the Air Force’s values,” PAF Public Affairs Office chief Col. Ma. Consuelo Castillo said in a statement.
Vigil nights will be held at Villamor Air Base and Basa Air Base, providing airmen the opportunity to pay their respects and honor their fallen colleagues. The interment details are yet to be finalized by the families of the two pilots.
“The ceremony served as a heartfelt tribute to the fallen airmen who dedicated their lives in service to the nation. Their unwavering commitment and bravery were honored as their families, comrades, and the Filipino people mourned their loss while honoring their legacy,” said AFP Public Affairs Office Chief Col. Xerxes Trinidad.
